Churches, Synagogues and Spiritual Organizations Welcoming to LGBT Persons
The Institute for Welcoming Resources (IWR), a program of the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force, announced, this week, the release of transACTION, a new curriculum designed for churches and religious institutions to help congregants and members understand and welcome transgender persons into their congregations and faith settings. Two versions are available for download (leader and participant) at www.welcomingresources.org.
Although GSAFE (Gay Straight Advocates for Education) does not endorse any particular religion or spiritual organization, we do list them on this web site when they are known to be or they state that they are welcoming. The following groups meet these criteria and LGBT persons should feel comfortable worshiping with them.
Beth David Synagogue Rabbi Eliezer Havivi, Beth David Synagogue, Greensboro www.bethdavidsynagogue.org
"Gay or straight; man or woman; black or white; rich or poor — all are created in God’s image — in Hebrew, b’tzelem elohim. Being created b’tzelem elohim carries with it both responsibilities and privileges. As God’s children, descended from ultimate royalty, we need to conduct ourselves with highest standards of interpersonal morality, kindness and compassion for others. Towards others, also bearing God’s image, we are required to act in a way that reflects the dignity befitting another child of God, our spiritual sister or brother. Being a religious person means that we must recognize, and act upon, the Godliness in ourselves, and in each other."

“Congregational UCC is open and welcoming to all who would join us for worship, education, service, and community. We are an active part of the United Church of Christ, and like our wider denomination, we believe that all are children of God and are to be welcomed at all levels of church involvement regardless of age, background, race, ethnicity, gender identity, orientation or class.”

Presbyterian Church of the Covenant Jim Dollar, Pastor jdollar1@bellsouth.net 501 S. Mendenhall St. Greensboro, NC 27403
We are an inclusive community which exists to experience, appreciate, celebrate and explore the spiritual foundation of existence. We respect and value a wide range of perceptions, and understand the place of questions and doubt in spiritual growth. We offer an atmosphere conducive to reflection and renewal as we examine the unexamined aspects of our lives, respond to the wonder of being, and offer ourselves in service and love to others.
And, our bumper sticker and yard sign say: "Inclusive, open-minded, and home for your soul."
