‚ÄčOur Statement Denouncing HB2

GSAFE is dedicated to supporting LGBTQIA youth with an emphasis on creating safe educational environments for all youth, including bathrooms and locker rooms.  The recent passage of HB2 undermines equity, promotes discrimination, and does not keep anyone safe, particularly in school environments where trans and gender non-conforming students are more likely to experience harassment by their classmates.  This legislation sends a strong message that the lives of LGBTQIA students do not matter as much as their straight and/or cisgender peers.  In an effort to fulfill our mission to foster environments where all youth can express their gender and sexual identities, promote understanding and education about LGBTQIA topics, and address policies that impact LGBTQIA youth, we emphatically denounce the North Carolina legislature’s passing of HB2.

We stand with LGBTQIA youth, and YouthSAFE, and for a world where fear and hate are not written into our laws.

YouthSAFE is a Greensboro-based organization that provides an environment for lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, queer, intersex youth and their allies to build community, share resources, and build skills for responding creatively to the world around them. The group meets every Friday from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Higher Ground (210 East Bessemer St.). New youth are always welcome.
